Formation of a Habit

I’m extremely fed up with twitter and I am haphazardly writing this just to flex a muscle and make some declarations- I wanna write and post here! I compared my twitter experience to a water bear in a volcano the other day, like I can be there forever maintaining an internal body temperature of -1000 degrees just retweeting Haechans but I really miss having any sort of meaningful public engagement. I’ve always been a dms guy and I write what feel like essays on the daily but it drifts away from me. I need to keep a dm diary at this point because there are things in there I want to remember and expand on especially because they are exchanges with beloved oomfs!

I also want to write about what I’m watching and reading and learning, I want to talk about how I’m reteaching myself how to enjoy artistic expression again- and I want to stop feeling so self conscious about what I put out there. This space just seems a little more For That.

I fucking suck at html though!

second the sentiment here so hard. we really gotta start putting ourselves out there again (in online terms) and going back to our blogging roots is where its at, at least i think so since slipping into oldschool fandoms again this year was rly eye opening in this regard and like why is all the interesting discourse and discussion locked away in discords and dms nowadays... once we conquer the html/css enemy it's over for everyone amanda let's get this bread !!!!

Exactly! I spend all day having private conversations about similar topics with friends that I know would have interesting conversations together as well, have things in common and learn from each other- dms feel like hoarding sometimes! I love the sanctity of the dm but the more open spaces are just as important to me and twitter has been so awful. It reminds me of my college experience- i met friends that have profoundly affected my life, but the institution itself was kind of traumatizing. It’s up to me to curate my current spaces to nurture those connections instead of relying on…twit. And you are right about discord servers like why does getting on one feel like you’re being screened for shitty poly. It’s more secure yes but still feels more exclusive than a forum, that extra step is like 🧍‍♂️. Dreamwidth I can dig tho! However I remain a messy nosy bitch so I will always look at twitter.

Re: nostalgic fandoms yes! Volunteering at a theater has really restored my love of film and discussion and joking about it- dropping little facts and observations in person, all while perfecting my popcorn machine ratios… it feels like im flexing a dusty part of my brain. its so fun and tactile!
